Abortion is Morally Wrong

In my argumentative coursework I am arguing that abortion is wrong and
not to be mistaken with 'Abortion should be made illegal.' I will
explain later why I have made this statement.
Abortion is the termination of an unborn child in its mother's womb
for up to twenty four weeks of the pregnancy or in special
circumstances e.g. Disability diagnosis a termination right up until
the mother goes in to labour. I think the above definition is an
easier and less harsh way of saying that abortion is the murdering of
a human being.
There are several reasons why abortion is legal and several reasons
why it shouldn?t be. I believe there are five3 main ways of preventing
abortion and this is why it is wrong and should be illegal.
My first point that concerns the prevention abortion is contraception
could be made more easily available. I believe that this is the best
and most effective way of reducing abortion because the fact is that
it is not as accessible as it could be and that a large population
does not know how to use contraceptives.
My second point is that sex education should be taught properly by a
teacher or that teenagers should be made to take a course which
explains all the aspects of sex and pregnancy. Research tells that a
large number of teenagers do not know how reproduction works or even
know what is going on in their bodies. Although teachers are meant to
teach this, a lot of teenagers will not understand or may just dismiss
the matter and will learn from television or other teenagers and may
be misled in to believing certain things about the matter e.g. The hit
television soap ?Coronation Street? had a story line involving a
teenage girl who got pregnant and her life turned out fine with no
disadvantages. Although some girls may believe this can happen, it is
very unlikely. I also feel that parents should not have to bear this
burden as it may be embarrassing or uncomfortable explaining this to a

| Abortion is Morally Wrong Essay - Abortion is Morally Wrong Abortion, the termination of pregnancy before the fetus is capable of independent life, can either be spontaneous or induced. It is called "the knowing destruction of the life of an unborn child." (Mass General Laws Chapter 112 Section 12K) When abortion occurs spontaneously, it is called a miscarriage. However, when the loss of a fetus is caused intentionally, it is regarded as a moral issue. Abortion destroys the lives of helpless, innocent children and is illegal in many countries.... |Abortion is Morally and Ethically Wrong Essay - Carol Everett once said “The product abortion, is skillfully marketed and sold to the women at a crisis time in her life. She buys the product, finds it defective and wants to return it for a refund, but it is too late.” Abortion is one of the most controversial topics amongst not only politicians but also every human being alive; rather they are pro-choice or pro-life. I am personally in between; I believe that is the choice of that particular woman. We can not as a society decide the choices of others, especially if it is not a written law.... | Essay on Abortion - Morally Wrong for 3000 Years! - The Judaeo-Christian tradition has always condemned abortion as a grave evil. The law of Moses ordered strict penalties for causing an abortion. We read, "If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely [Hebrew: "so that her child comes out"], but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot" (Ex.... [tags: Argumentative Persuasive Topics]|

| Abortion: The Wrong Choice Essay - Abortion. Is it the right or wrong thing to do. In this paper I will try to prove why I believe that it is wrong to have an abortion. Why have an abortion when you can have the baby and put it up for adoption after birth. When you have an abortion, you are committing manslaughter, murder. Some people may not think so, but they are. If the woman does not want to have a baby, then why did she take the risk by having sex. I believe that once you have found out that you are pregnant you should continue the process and see the pregnancy through to birth.... [tags: The Truth about Abortion]|

|Abortion is Wrong Essay - Abortion is one of America’s most controversial subjects. The participants in this debate have fixed beliefs on the matter at hand. On one side of the debate are people who believe in pro- choice. They argue that choice of a woman is more important than an unborn fetus. They point out that an unborn child is not on the same level of importance as the mother. Also, the pro-life group declares that choice is the sole purpose behind their argument. They believe that if a woman cannot chose to abolish a pregnancy, then she looses one of her basic human rights.... [tags: Argumentative Essay, Persuasive Essay]||1134 words|

| Essay about The Abortion Debate - Abortion is one of the most heated moral debates. It can be said that a person’s view on this issue speaks to the type of person they are in general. Most would say that someone who has a more liberal view of the world is pro choice and someone who is more conservative is pro life. Although there may prove to be a correlation between political view and view on abortion, there are people in this world on both sides of the issue. Some support a woman’s right to choose abortion, while others think the right to life is more important than a woman’s right to choose.... [tags: Abortion Essays]|

| Essay about The Abortion Debate - Abortion has been defined as the termination of a pregnancy and is a very controversial topic (Abortion). The heated discussion about legalizing and restricting abortion has arisen over many years. During the Women's Rights Movement 1848-1920, not only were women fighting for their right to be treated like everyone else, they were fighting for the right of birth control and reproductive rights (ushistory.org). Introducing the birth control pill in the 1960s, women could finally control their pregnancies (ushistory.org).... [tags: Abortion Essays]|

|Essay about Abortion: Roe v. Wade - ABORTION Abortion has always been an extremely controversial issue. There are, and will probably always be many different views concerning the ethical acceptability as well as the social policy aspects of abortion. In fact, before the decision made in the famous court case of Roe v. Wade, abortion was morally wrong and was constituted as a crime that could lead to a prison sentence of up to five years. teenager. Although on the other hand people may say ?Is it
embarrassing if it prevents pregnancy??
The third way of preventing abortion is to increase the involvement of
men in the relationship. I think that the father has a very big
responsibility because as people say ?It takes two to tango?. If a
father was introduced in to the picture there is a high chance that
both parents will work together and raise the baby.
My fourth way of preventing abortion is to introduce new birth control
methods but with out the government funding which would cause a raise
in tax and the public would not pay because some people would think
that abortion is not a good enough reason to raise taxes.
My fifth and final point on how to prevent abortion is to make society
friendly and easier on children/teenagers. Research shows that America
has the highest rate of teenage pregnancies partly because of the
environment they grow up in. If there was pressure taken off children
the numbers of teen pregnancies would drop along with the number of
I now want to talk about the reasons for abortion. The main reasons
for abortion are rape, teenage pregnancy, prostitution and disability
Apart from rape I believe these are all very bad excuses to make
abortion legal. Although pregnancy from rape doesn?t happen very
often, it does happen. Rape is a terrible ordeal for a woman to go
through and if abortion has to be legal this is the only reason for
it. If a woman does get pregnant from a case like rape and a child is
born then this child may remind the mother of her attacker, on the
other hand though the mother could raise this child to be an
upstanding member of society and not a rapist like his/her father.
I now want to look at why disability diagnosis is an inhumane reason
for abortion. Disability diagnosis is the termination of an unborn
child because the doctors say that when the baby is born it will have
some kind of disability. I think that every one is unique and should
not be murdered for their uniqueness. Every living thing should be
accepted in society and this ?disability diagnosis? is nothing but a
barbaric witch hunt.
As for reasons like prostitution, teenage pregnancy or the baby cannot
be supported, these are all brought on by lack of responsibility and
immaturity and in the words of Mother Teresa ?We should combat
abortion with adoption?. I think all women who are thinking of getting
an abortion should read these words and while reading them think of
the life the child could have with the mother or with foster parents.
I believe adoption is the best way to combat abortion.
Reasons why abortion was made legal in the abortion act of 1967 were
that people argued that an unborn baby or foetus, is not a real human
and that the child is just a group of random cells. I believe that
this is not true and that that this ?foetus? is a human being. It
states in Jeremiah 1:5 ?Before you were formed in the body of your
mother, I had knowledge of you, and before birth I made you holy, I
have given you the work of being a prophet to the nations.? This
passage clearly states that an unborn child is a human. It was also
argued in 1967 that if abortion was not made legal then abortion would
be carried out dangerously in back alley clinics as they were called.
At the start of this piece of coursework I stated that ?Abortion is
wrong and not to be mistaken with Abortion should be made illegal.? I
believe this statement because if it is made illegal people will get
it done dangerously by unqualified doctors, it will not stop abortion.
To conclude I would rather abortion legal and that it is done safely
and that it can try being prevented rather than it being made illegal
and being carried out dangerously. I also believe that if abortion is
legal it should only be allowed in the circumstances of rape. Last of
all i believe that abortion should be severely discouraged and that
the world should remember Mother Teresa?s words, ?We should combat
abortion with adoption.?
Argumentative Essay on Pros and Cons of Abortion
Abortion is a very sensitive issue. Many people are constantly debating whether or not abortion should be allowed or not. Some people think abortion is very bad and that it should not be allowed at all. They think abortion is like committing murder as it is killing the human fetus. Others feel that the parents should have the right to choose and it is not murder until the baby is born. People who think it is bad say that the fetus is something alive, a human being who is partly formed and to do abortion is to kill it and commit murder. The people who think it is ok say that it is not murder until and unless the child is born. I think that abortion has to be seen about which stage the fetus is in. If it is in the very early stage, then it is not murder. But if it has already developed into a larger fetus, it can be considered as murder.
There are other times when abortion is also fine. For example if there is a complication in pregnancy and the mother can suffer because of the child, I think it is ok to do abortion. It is important to understand the various ideas that go behind abortion. The right of an abortion for a mother should be left on her own decision as the mother knows best about her condition. She is going to be the 'host body' for the baby, even though her own, for nine months and according to Thompson, the mother should have the right to decide if she wants to foster and go through with the ordeal.
Abortion should not be considered as murder in the early stage, which is the first ten to twelve weeks. Scientific research has proven that even though the fetus starts to develop a face, arms, legs, etc by the tenth week, it does not have a consciousness and it does not constitute as a human being. There have been many arguments over what is right about abortion and what is not. The Pro-Life activists claim that it is an absolute crime to have an abortion at any stage of pregnancy while some of the extreme pro-abortionists believe that the mother should have the right to kill her baby even a week before full birth. These two extremes form the continuum over which all the debate has been made over the past few years over the topic of abortions and no concrete decision has been derived out of them. It is, however, common sense that prevails and leads a person to hold a position that a fetus is not exactly a human being during the first few weeks of conception and that a mother is morally, ethically, and medically permitted to undergo an abortion if she wishes as such (Niebuhr).
People who think like this, such as the National Organization for Women, want abortion to remain legal and allowed as they think that everyone has a right to choose whether they want to keep the baby or kill it. I think it all comes down to realizing when exactly the act of abortion can become murder. For this, many people think of the ideas about exactly when the human fetus becomes a human being. Many people, those who are pro-life and against abortion, consider the fetus as a human being, as a person from the moment that the cell is conceived. Thompson writes there are many people in this world who think that a fetus is a human being as soon as it is conceived, but that is not the case. A fetus is not human until very late in the pregnancy and in the first few weeks it is only a biological entity that is amidst its developmental stage.
It can be very difficult to exactly state at which point the embryo becomes human being. However, many people agree on the fact that the fetus takes up human form and becomes a human a long time before birth. If they think of the fetus as a human being right when it is conceived, then abortion at any stage would be considered as murder. But even then, is the baby not part of the mother? And does she not have the right to choose to kill her baby if she wants to?
Overall, throughout the many years of American history, a constant debate has been made on finding out whether abortion is good or bad. The people who think that abortion is good are called abortionists and those who think it is bad are called non-abortionist. They have been debating for a very long time and they have protested strongly. In 2003, President Bush signed a law to prevent abortion procedures through out the country. This sparked a lot of controversy and organizations like National Organization for Women opposed this strongly. They think it is the invasion of the rights of women. This group wants abortion to remain legal and accessible as they think that everyone has a right to choose whether they want to keep the baby or kill it.
So, even though many people want abortion, and others do not want it, it is not a clear line and no one has been able to find a decisive definition of when abortion becomes murder and when it should be allowed. All in all, it should be left up to the mother and the father to decide if they want to go abortion. But the choice should not be left up to them after the embryo has developed to a stage where it gets the human traits. They should only be allowed to do abortion in the first ten to twelve weeks of pregnancy and doctors should not allow them to do abortion if the fetus is in the later stages of development. This should be the law in all states and it should be put into effect everywhere at once. This would make it equal in all states and no parents could cheat the law by driving to another state and getting abortion done there. Abortion is a serious issue and it should be researched upon more. The problems with the abortionists and the non-abortionists should be solved with active dialogue.
