  • Is Technology Making Us Smarter or Dumber?
    • First up, this essay reads like a professional writer’s work – and it is.
    • By posing a question the essay delivers on an original argument (“it isn’t smarter or dumber – it’s impact…”) but it’s an answer to a question that is too broad for a short paper. Indeed, the author is working on a book-length work to address the issues he raises.
    • As an expert this author can perhaps get away with making sweeping statements about the origins of cooking, but an undergraduate writer cannot. There would need to be many more citations if this were an academic paper.
    • The essay includes a counterargument. Check! Notice the, “I think you can argue…” paragraph. Also a nice example of using “you” in writing – which many students are told never to do. It works here.

A persuasive essay is a write-up that has the main purpose of convincing the readers to believe what the author is pointing out or what he or she wants the readers to do. It involves logical reasoning and items that are needed to be focused, especially concerning the issue on why a persuasive essay has been written.

A persuasive essay shows concrete samples and factual basis on why the idea that the writer is presenting is better or more likely to be followed than the other. Readers must be able to adapt the point of view of the writer and see from his or her eyes on where he or she is coming from. A persuasive essay must be able to grab the attention of the people reading it easily. This is one of the main reasons why the subject of the essay usually is in the first paragraph. It allows people to already have a grasp of the idea that the author wants to present and make them believe.   • The topic. A writer must have a broad knowledge on the idea that he or she is to present so that what he or she is to write wil be considered credible, appealing, and accurate
  • The target audience. The persuasive essay must be able to catch the attention of people in the specific target market to whom a writer wants the persuasive essay to reach
  • The counterargument. Presenting facts that weakens the argument of what a writer believes in makes people realize the strength of the writer’s opinion and presented basis.
  • The purpose on why the essay has been written. A writer must always stick to the message and the purpose of the message that he or she wants to convey.
